  • Is a young generation of Internet users a cohort of thieves or maybe legal regimes have not managed to catch up with the Internet revolution?The subject introduces selected key concepts drawn from the European and American legal tradition and presents them in the context of the Internet revolution that has redefined social habits and lifestyles of all generations. Students will be confronted with American as well as EU regulatory approaches to handle such pressing problems as mass downloading of files from P2P networks, privacy of users, security in cyberspace, contracting online, liability for content posted or hosted etc. No legal background would be necessary.

    Learning outcomes:


    Basic understanding of key legal concepts in American & European legal traditions
    Basic understanding of key concepts associated with the way Internet functions and further develops
    Ability to use eLearning tools


  • The aim of E-commerce law is to introduce LLM students to fundamental legal regulations as well as case law concerning the Internet in the European Union.The course focuses on three areas: principles of electronic commerce activities, copyright law and privacy law.

    The main part of the course focuses on the analysis of directive 2000/31/EC on electronic commerce as well as supplementary directives and the related case law. The second part of the course draws on the directive 2001/29/EC on harmonisation of copyrights in the Information Society as well as on numerous other instruments that are of importance to IT lawyers. Finally the courses deals with fundamental issues of privacy as treated in the European primary law as well as in the directive 95/46/EC and the directive 2002/58/EC.

    Upon completion of the subject students should be able to:
    • understand fundamental issues in the European e-commerce law
    • locate the most important provisions governing IT law in the European Union
    • apply interpretations of the European Court of Justice in national settings
  • The aim of this course is to provide basics of e-commerce and intellectual property law in Poland to MBA students at Politechnika.

    The course will outline the following topics:
    1. Introduction to e-commerce law in Poland
    ( Sources of law; the notion of information society services; Information requirements; Regulation of spam; Issues in search engine marketing; Online contracting; Liability for content hosted, cached and transmitted; Monitoring & blocking of content
    2. Introduction to IP law in Poland
    Sources of law; Copyright law basics; Public domain; Exceptions to copyright law; Protection of computer programs; Protection of databases; Trademarks; Patents; Trade secrets
